Description

The Boulder-Park Cleaver arguably provides the best, most natural ski descent from Grant's Peak, the true summit of Mount Baker. When conditions allow, a direct descent of the Park Headwall's steepest slopes to the cleaver yields one flawless fall line for almost 7,000 ft before returning to the forest below the Boulder Glacier. The headwall of the Boulder Glacier provides a more moderate (albeit less direct) climb and descent.

Early in the season, it is possible to climb the toe of the glacier to access the cleaver. Otherwise a fixed rope is available to reach the ridge. There are nice camps on the moraine and below the glacier above the fixed line.
