Synopsis

Rising up from verdant forests, multiple glaciers spill from every aspect of Mount Baker. At 10,781-ft, her prominence of 8,812-ft guarantees her appeal to the skier. Close to the college town of Bellingham, it is a favorite playground of locals who salivate over it from Mount Baker Ski Area. In 1999 this resort broke Mount Rainier's world record breaking snowfall, pushing it into the lime light of magazines and film. Still most skiers stay on the well trod routes of the Easton Glacier and Coleman-Deming, leaving the more appealing routes such as the Coleman Headwall and Boulder-Park Cleaver to the more adventuresome.

Nearly unique in Washington State is Mount Baker's quality year around skiing and the accessibility it presents. Even in august over 5000-ft of skiing can be milked out of the larger glaciers. It has become a favorite destination for turns all year in which skiers ski at least once every single month.

Views of Mount Shuksan, Blum, Hagen and peaks beyond offer inroads into valleys full of dozens of other monsters whose masses inspire the adventuresome spirit. Offering challenging terrain, amazing scenery and terrific skiing it has become a training ground for aspiring ski mountaineers. With everything this mountain has to offer, for the newby or the most ardent enthusiast, neither is to be let down.
