Description
Best done in April, the Nooksack Traverse begins at Mount Baker Ski Area and ends at Hannigan Pass Trailhead. Make sure you park in a approved spot. From the ski area, go to chair 4 and descend to the valley and ascend the White Salmon Glacier. A good camp can be found high on the Sulphide Glacier. You can ascend the Mount Shuksan Pyramid before crossing the Crystal Glacier and descending the Nooksack Glacier. Cross beneath Cloud Cap Peak early in the morning and ascend Icy Peak to the summit by climbing around the back side to the front. Descend from the summit down the Spillway Glacier to a second camp below Ruth Mountain. The following day ascend Ruth Mountain and descend from the summit to the valley below. A easy climb brings you back to the trail. Follow it to the trailhead. Depending on snow you may have a few miles of road, but very little time is spent off the skis.
