Synopsis
Like an axe blade turned skyward, Spider Mountain chops any hopes of reaching its summit without effort. A long ridge with two distinct sides, the north and south faces, it is a long approach via any direction. In the winter avalanche prone slopes protect it, and in the spring North Cascades weather holds you at her mercy.
Along the popular Ptarmigan Traverse, most skiers tend to bypass descending any peaks whatsoever, although summer scramblers will include this peak and many others. Due to the gear necessary for a long ski traverse and climbing, it is usually best to climb Spider Mountain by itself.
